I thought this letterpress snow angel greeting card design made by Brooklyn Bookbinder, was pretty clever. I love how the snow angel part is imprinted into the card with no ink, it really looks like impressions in snow. You can purchase it right now in Brooklyn Bookbinder’s Etsy shop.

Illustrator Lehel Kovacs occasionally makes some really nice typographic illustrations based on Yahoo headlines of the day. You can purchase some prints of those, along with other fantastic illustrations at his shop. If you want to follow his progress, he also maintains a blog.

Photographer Grant Hamilton takes a variety of nice photos, but the ones that really caught my eye were the Polaroid shots of found retro stripes. You can buy large prints of some of these at his etsy shop. They would also make great color scheme inspiration for any retro inspired design.

Dolce Press printed this letterpress business card that looks to be inspired by old wood type posters. It was designed by the client, Suodsey Penn, who has a pretty nice gallery of her work online. I especially like this poster by her:

Design and press studio enormouschampion has this great letterpressed cassette tape design on one of their cards. It has a handy space at the top of the tape to write your message, as if you were writing in the songs on the mix tape. The above photo is by Kristina Contes and shows a little more of the texture detail than the photos on etsy.

Designer Mark Chapman just posted a little teaser shot of a really nice typeface that he is working on called Full Circle. The dots are supposed to represent where the point of the compass would be if it was drawn by hand. I just love the proportions, it’s dignified yet futuristic. Can’t wait until the whole font is done, I’ll try to update you when that happens.

I just noticed that I have hit the 100 subscribers marks on my feedburner stats! My goal was to reach that in a years time, but I have done it in about half a year. I never thought there was that many super nerds out there, but my faith in humanity’s nerdiness has grown. It’s hard work doing this, especially since I try so hard to find things that are relatively under the blogophere’s radar. Thanks to the artists that make the hunt inspiring, and thanks to the readers that give the artists an audience worth inspiring.

Every once in a while I’m going to feature a Flickr photographer that has consistently been producing quality photos. This week, I’m featured the photographer that goes by the name Harpy. I’ve narrowed it down to about 5 of my favorites, but there are hundreds of great photos in her photostream. A few of my favorite sets are float, water, and dots.

I have decided to try something new. Instead of posting a mega post of typographic photography once in a blue moon, I’ll feature each photo separately so that I can post these images more frequently and they each get their own spotlight. I’ve created a separate category for typography photography so that essentially there is an ever growing collection in one place that can be browsed at your convenience.

The above photo starts off with a great 3-d metal rendering of the word “Bloom”, but the shadow it creates really makes for the fantastic composition. I love how the shadow seems to crawl up the edge of the physical word.

I thought this creative use of typography in architecture was breathtaking. It’s looks like some sort of poem, and the words seem to dip into the surface of the wall and emerge in a flowing rhythm. Typophile user ngocngo noticed this on a new building and I’m glad he took the time to photograph it and share it.

This hand lettering on a door for a “Microanalysis Research and Consulting Chemist” made me laugh. It’s such a whimsical style and the pink paint adds to the fun. It’s the exact opposite of what I would expect to see for such a company.

I smiled when I saw this font created from parts of a bike bell. It’s a pretty unique one, and I’m glad I found the creator’s blog while checking out my referral logs.

As an unrelated note, I’d just like to say that I’m sorry for the lack of recent posts. I had been busy the last couple of weeks, and every blogger needs a little bit of vacation occasionally. Thanks for sticking around, I’m back and ready to post regularly again.

Lori Hutchinson is making some really fresh paintings. They have great texture, and I always love some ethereal oddness in paintings. I particularly liked the one called Umbrella Weather, but the one I posted above was just so bold, unique and well executed, that I had to feature it. It’s called Hanging Like a Star Part II, and it’s available as a print for art lovers on a budget. She’s on Flickr too if you are a fellow user and would like to leave her some compliments.

Our school has brought in a fantastic visiting artist in printmaker Koichi Yamamoto. I had to look him up as soon as I got home from seeing his work and I found that wonderful website with a ton of nice sized images of his work (I recommend the monotype galleries in particular). I love seeing how the thumbnails look like fully resolved atmospheric landscapes, but when you zoom in all you see are the restrained and simple strokes that somehow trick our minds from a distance. These works are huge in real life and they looked the best viewed from the opposite side of the gallery. Interesting tidbit from his talk: he forces himself to spend less than 20 minutes per work so that he doesn’t let a bored and less enthusiastic version of himself have any part of the creation process.

I like this type quote design by designer Narani. It’s a very nice looking style, and the quote is pretty interesting. Apparently the quote is by Mac Baumwell, as I found in this great list of type quotes from Typophile’s forum.
