Tranquil Polaroid photography by VioletJulia

Links to above photos: bird, trees, horse, pillows.
VioletJulia is an artist that takes amazing Polaroid photos. The compositions are minimal and go well with the muted colors of Polaroid film. I find myself more and more attracted to this Lo-fi style of photography. There’s something about it that creates a serene and […]

I Want to be a Coal Miner - Vintage children’s book

I saw this vintage children’s book at a thrift store called, I Want to be a Coal Miner. I thought that was a strange aspiration for a child and I had to thumb through it. It turns out that although the story is boring and borderline propagandistic, the illustration style was amazing. […]

Radiohead “Nude” remix made with old printers, scanners and hard drives

This music video remix of Radiohead’s “Nude” song is incredible. Someone took an old printer, scanner, spectrum machine, and some hard drives and used them to make the sounds for the song. It results in a very minimal lo-fi sound that sounds bad at first but comes together to create breathtaking beauty. […]

Great gig poster designs by Oomingmak Design Company

Oomingmak Design Company makes some fantastic gig poster designs. I love the vintage color palette and the type work is spot on.

Retarded Children Benefit Show

I saw this photo of a roll of tickets for a “Retarded Children Benefit Show” and I had to post it. Apparently is was taken through the window of an abandoned movie theater. It almost looks like a photoshop, but I forget that “retarded” used to be politically correct back in the day.

Mime alphabet book, and other vintage children’s books

This vintage mime alphabet book looks awesome, I wish the whole thing was scanned in. It comes from an pretty sweet flickr set of vintage children’s books.

Huge collection of vintage matchbook labels

Huge collection of logos from the 1970’s

Here’s a great Flickr set of 121 pages of logos from the 1970’s scanned from the book “World of Logotypes”. Solid black on plain white, that’s the way to do it. None of those fancy gradients and reflection cop-outs that you see everywhere these days. Just pure balance, harmony, and simplicity.

1950’s Valentines Day Cards

I love old greeting cards. There was a time when cards were a lot more personal in feel and the cards were just more meaningful before they got so commercialized. I enjoyed looking through this Flickr set of 1950’s Valentines day cards, and the crying dunce elephant was the saddest and cutest thing […]
