Watercolor infused graphics by Karen Kurycki

These watercolor based graphics by Karen Kurycki made me smile instantly. I love the way she uses loosely dropped watercolor to give it some organic texture, but the careful layouts of the paint keep the designs graphic in nature. Of course the wit helps with the smile factor. There’s a definite DADA influence [...]

“Hello World” letterpess test run

I just thought this was a very funny and appropriate way to test out your new letterpress machine. Those true nerds out there (which I’m guessing is a good proportion of my visitors) will understand, others can learn the significance here. I love the meshing of old world and new world.

Typography inspired Pinewood Derby car

The Columbus Society of Communicating Arts recently held a fun looking Pinewood Derby contest. I especially love the “Typemobile” pictured above. As a former 3 time champion in my Cub Scout years, it combines the fun I had making Pinewood Derby cars as a youth, with my current design obsession as an adult. [...]

This is pretty funny, but mostly sad because of how true it is.

Back to the Futura - Cinematypography

The fantastic design blog September Industry has created, with the help of other contributers, a list of movie titles that have font names worked into them. Maybe it’s because I’m a super nerd, but it’s the funniest thing I have seen on the internet in a long time. Some of my favorites are [...]

Letterpress guinea pig on scooter by Moontree

Moontree Letterpress has a great blog about the designs that they make. I love this card design of a guinea pig on a scooter. It’s fun to see silly designs printed in such an elegant way. It’s for sale on Etsy. Be sure to check out their more “serious” work on [...]

Retarded Children Benefit Show

I saw this photo of a roll of tickets for a “Retarded Children Benefit Show” and I had to post it. Apparently is was taken through the window of an abandoned movie theater. It almost looks like a photoshop, but I forget that “retarded” used to be politically correct back in the day.

Mime alphabet book, and other vintage children’s books

This vintage mime alphabet book looks awesome, I wish the whole thing was scanned in. It comes from an pretty sweet flickr set of vintage children’s books.

Emma Smart - Scrabble toss pillows

Emma Smart has a nice portfolio of crafts and design that she does. I thought the scrabble tile toss pillows were pretty neat.

Rather Difficult Font Game

I had fun playing this font identification game. I got 27 out of 34, and I only got a couple of those points off of guesses. I’m pretty proud of that score, considering I’ve only been a type nut for a few months.
