I was struck by this minimally designed Beach Boys button for some reason. There’s an odd to beauty to it’s purity that I think relates to the way I feel about the music of that time. I found this while poking around through Peter Denton’s nostalgia collection on Flickr.

The music video for Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie is so whimsically beautiful, and I really love the song too (mmm….plinky piano synth sounds). It’s definitely worth clicking the “watch in high quality” link on the youtube page.

I can tell this version of Frosty the Snowman by Fiona Apple is going to get a lot of plays from me this year (The “video” is just an image, but I posted it for the song). It’s from the amazing various artists album called The Hotel CafĂ© presents… Winter Songs. I also [...]

Violenn Simon created this incredible book of illustrations for the Doors song, People are Strange. The video shows the pages being turned in time to the music. The typography for the lyrics and the ghostly illustrations fit the mood of the song perfectly and I love the way it’s presented in this video.

I have fallen in love with a new music video. Paper Beats Rock came up with an innovative animation style for the music video for the song “You Are Home” by Levi Weaver. The cutouts of plain line drawings glued to sticks that gently move about the scene are perfect for the melancholic [...]

I’ve fallen for this little tune by The Deming Sisters. It’s purely simple throwback to old-time jazzy folk music. The vocals are beautiful, and I implore you to at least listen until to the kazoo kicks in.

The song Won’t Say Anything by Hello Seahorse is a bubbly, handclappy work of beauty and has quickly become my favorite song of the moment. The video is pretty fun and makes you wish you were a part of the band. I found this live version of Won’t Say Anything that is stripped [...]

Although hip-hop isn’t typically my favorite, Vote for Hope by M.C. Yogi is actually pretty good. What I really love is the video though. It starts off with great typographic animation, and then shows some nice symbol animation, and then has some nice video effects towards the end that got me really pumped [...]

I am currently swooning over the above video of Thee More Shallows playing their song Ask me about Jon Stross live and acoustic on a couch. I’ve been a big fan ever since I saw them open for Why? a few years ago. They have a very low key, new-folk style, but the [...]

I loved the highly detailed illustration in this gig poster for a Dosh show. It features whimsical looking type design and great colors. The artwork was done by Ian Ferguson of hydEONart.com. As a side note, Dosh’s music is great if you like eclectic atmospheric percussive songs.
