I saw this vintage children’s book at a thrift store called, I Want to be a Coal Miner. I thought that was a strange aspiration for a child and I had to thumb through it. It turns out that although the story is boring and borderline propagandistic, the illustration style was amazing. [...]
Whitney Shaw does some sweet illustration and design. I’m especially impressed by her personal business card that she illustrated and had pressed by The Mandate Press.
I thought these paintings on shaved pencils by Ghostpatrol were pretty clever. It’s a great idea and the paintings themselves are like little ambiguous windows into a mystical world.

Moontree Letterpress has a great blog about the designs that they make. I love this card design of a guinea pig on a scooter. It’s fun to see silly designs printed in such an elegant way. It’s for sale on Etsy. Be sure to check out their more “serious” work on [...]
Charmingwall is a site that serves as a museum and store for art prints. The prints are great, but it was the site’s design that really impressed me. Usually I grumble about flash and prefer minimal and efficient designs, but this one is actually good. It starts as an organic, hand drawn [...]

I especially love the “Volcano” print as it reminds me of Asian woodblock prints. The rest of the prints feature great colors and texture as well in both photographic and graphic styles. The price [...]
Susan Rudat has some lovely line work in her Moleskine ink drawings. I especially enjoyed the “Flora” set. She also has a blog that is worth checking out. I love the blurring of the line between sketches and finished art pieces that is happening these days, and a lot of [...]
I was literally watching Juno (again) yesterday and found myself wondering how they created the animation sequence during the opening credits. I had guessed that they just lowered the frame count of an actual video and used some effect to give the frames a hand drawn look, but it looked too nice to be [...]
I like these prints by Groundwork on Etsy. They feature simple scenes, muted colors, and great texture.
Via my love for you is a stampede of horses.
My design was featured in Smashing Magazine’s desktop wallpaper calendar collection for May 2008. The download links for a variety of sizes are in the post on their website. There’s even versions without the calendar on it. It’s a cool idea, the only thing that bugs me is the watermark requirement. [...]
