Karen Horton’s stamp collection is always intriguing, but I found this recently added Nigerian Peaceful Use of Outer Space stamp to be so amazing that I just had to spotlight it here. The colors, the type, and the illustrations are amazing, and I would marry that gritty background gradient if I could.

I like where this series of simplified insects and bugs based on the golden ratio is going. It’s being made by Graphic Nothing, who describes his own work as “Retro Futuristic Folk Graphics – until that is, I can think of an even more absurd pretentious description.”
There’s some great stuff in this gallery of posters designed for Flight of the Concords’ Spring 2009 tour.
These are some things I liked last week, click on the images to be taken to their sources. Really innovative animation style using strips of paper, nice song as well. Clever ad, I hate mangled toast! I never knew a rat could be this beautiful, it makes me want one. The colors and bokeh on [...]

I enjoyed loking through Marloes Duyker’s thread illustrations. Illustrating with thread might not be something original anymore, but the compositions are amazing and cover a vast range of moods. Via Holga

I’m really loving the vintage graphic style that Jordan Gray has going on. He uses type and colors really nicely in my opinion, and it was hard to pick one image to post (so you get three). I can’t believe that a lot of my favorites are versions that didn’t get used by the client, [...]

I remember seeing this beard illustration that was inspired by Milton Glaser’s Bob Dylan illustration. Well, now it is available as a poster from Beard Revue. If I didn’t currently have a surplus of art waiting around to be hung on my already crowded walls, this would be a must buy for me. Via Anyways.us

I am loving this print for sale at L’Affiche Moderne entitled, El arca y el diluvio by Argintinian illustrator Gustavo Amir. His pieces are innocent and childlike, but reflect a complex maturity in the emotions they evoke. Check out his Flickr gallery for lots more of his great work. Via Pica + Pixel

Cristiana Couciero has a unique style of graphic art that she posts to her blog. She creates digital collages, but the graphics she appropriates are taken from mid-century modern designs and her compositions feel minimal and structured yet layered and abstract. It’s a very distinctive style and I love seeing things in them like the [...]

Since I didn’t end up getting a calendar for Christmas, I just bought this letterpress seasonal wall calendar from ave9river. A seasonal calendar is perfect for a calendar page flipping procrastinator like me. Ave9river makes very delicate and beautiful letterpress designs. I also loved her snowbird holiday card design.
