3D light painting still frame animation with an iPad

The people at Dentsu London came up with this brilliant method for using cross sections of 3D type on a iPad along with long camera exposures to create an interesting new way of making still frame animations with painted light. The video explains the process and then gets into the actual animation.

Things I liked last week #4

These are some things I liked last week, click on the images to be taken to their sources. Really innovative animation style using strips of paper, nice song as well. Clever ad, I hate mangled toast! I never knew a rat could be this beautiful, it makes me want one. The colors and bokeh on [...]

Catacumba typeface promotional video

Love the idea of creating a video to promote the upcoming typeface Catacumba. I really like the regular and italic weights, it very much evokes a cheesy spooky feel without resorting to blood drips, distortion, and such. Via we love typography

Things I liked last week #2

So sublime I want to go to there Really impressive stop motion, I love tiny bits of hand cut paper Nice book cover, intelligent write-up about the book as well White text on soft colored photographs is so hot right now Love the beams of light Interesting combination of two of my favorite fonts From [...]

Breathtaking animation music video – Levi Weaver “You Are Home”

I have fallen in love with a new music video. Paper Beats Rock came up with an innovative animation style for the music video for the song “You Are Home” by Levi Weaver. The cutouts of plain line drawings glued to sticks that gently move about the scene are perfect for the melancholic and sentimental [...]

Great type and illustration in pro Obama music video

Although hip-hop isn’t typically my favorite, Vote for Hope by M.C. Yogi is actually pretty good. What I really love is the video though. It starts off with great typographic animation, and then shows some nice symbol animation, and then has some nice video effects towards the end that got me really pumped up about [...]

Flip book calendar of tree losing leaves

This calendar booklet contains a lovely flip book animation of a tree losing its leaves. It’s a nice and simple vector illustration and the type work on the cover is beautiful as well. It was designed by Tomato Kosir, who has a lot more fantastic design work in his portfolio.

Charmingwall – Beautiful flash website design

Charmingwall is a site that serves as a museum and store for art prints. The prints are great, but it was the site’s design that really impressed me. Usually I grumble about flash and prefer minimal and efficient designs, but this one is actually good. It starts as an organic, hand drawn logo. The real [...]

Juno opening animated sequence – Process photos

I was literally watching Juno (again) yesterday and found myself wondering how they created the animation sequence during the opening credits. I had guessed that they just lowered the frame count of an actual video and used some effect to give the frames a hand drawn look, but it looked too nice to be some [...]

Bjork – Wanderlust music video

Although I’m not a huge Bjork fan, I really liked her new music video for “Wanderlust”. It’s a really strange (surprise, surprise) 3-d animation style. It creates a very surreal atmosphere. The video is pretty big, but it’s really good quality. I couldn’t help making a silly little animated gif of one of the scenes. [...]
