I saw this amazing wood business card holder on Etsy and I fell in love with it. I am a sucker for nicely presented woodgrain. I had just expected it to be painted on with wood stain, but the design turned out to be made from inlaid pieces of wood.
I looked at their other products and was blown away by this rendering of ceder waxwings on oak. I love how the design shows through on the back as if you are looking at the birds from behind.
Through further exploration of Sleeping Forest Studio’s website I learned a new word:
“Recently she has begun incorporating marquetry (images made of solid wood) into her pieces as well…”
They also happen to have a nice little blog that has some insights into their process along with tidbits about their daily lives.
