The song Won’t Say Anything by Hello Seahorse is a bubbly, handclappy work of beauty and has quickly become my favorite song of the moment. The video is pretty fun and makes you wish you were a part of the band. I found this live version of Won’t Say Anything that is stripped down and much more intimate that is definitely worth a viewing.

Thanks to Annie of AudioRX for the heads up. She runs a great music discovery blog which is useful because she has good taste and I don’t have time anymore to sift through piles of music looking for the rare gem.

I am currently swooning over the above video of Thee More Shallows playing their song Ask me about Jon Stross live and acoustic on a couch. I’ve been a big fan ever since I saw them open for Why? a few years ago. They have a very low key, new-folk style, but the music has so much depth and atmosphere that goes straight to the soul. I love this version where they are playing acoustically and even more lo-fi than usual, especially how the drummer is just playing on a pillow and it still seems to sound so nice.

Apparently it’s part of a video series of many artists playing in this style. You can see a full list of all of the videos here.

A few of the highlights, in my opinion, are these:

#27 Mattafix – Angel (Love the steel drums in this)
#28 Cocoon – Hey ya (Seriously beautiful Outkast cover)
#31 Syd Matters – Everything Else (Great look, better music)
#36 Scout Niblett – Wet Road (Strained vocals and furrowed eyebrows)
#42 Jose Gonzales – The Nest (Just straight up talent and beautiful music)

Be sure to view these in high quality for better sound!

I find that when I choose color schemes for my designs I end up falling back to my favorite colors over and over again, so when I need variety I’ve been using Adobe’s Kuler to find color inspiration. I love the way it works with CS3 so easily, and it seems to be the least buggy web program for creating color schemes for me. They recently updated the program so that you can tie it together with your Flickr account and create color schemes based on your images, your favorites, or any other photo you want. I love this feature as a way of introducing a little bit of controlled randomness into my creative process. One thing I noticed though, is that I am seriously lacking in the area of colorful pictures in my Flickr account.

If you can think of it, there is probably a Flickr group about it. I loved looking at this Flickr set of people jumping off swings. Jumping off of a swing is one of the most exhilarating feelings in the world. It was my favorite thing to do in a park. The build up as you work your way to a suitable speed and height. Those few swings where you almost jump, but hesitate and go back for another pump. And finally the release…your arms fling up in freedom as the earth and your body part ways. If you time your release just right, for a couple seconds, you feel like you are flying. I have the urge to feel that again.

This is the first known image of Peter, the boy she had a crush on. It was donated by a former boyhood friend of his. A short story about the friends can be read about halfway down this page.

The dairy is still one of the most powerful books I have read and seeing this photo and reading that line just reminded me of how real and sad it was.
