I find that when I choose color schemes for my designs I end up falling back to my favorite colors over and over again, so when I need variety I’ve been using Adobe’s Kuler to find color inspiration. I love the way it works with CS3 so easily, and it seems to be the least buggy web program for creating color schemes for me. They recently updated the program so that you can tie it together with your Flickr account and create color schemes based on your images, your favorites, or any other photo you want. I love this feature as a way of introducing a little bit of controlled randomness into my creative process. One thing I noticed though, is that I am seriously lacking in the area of colorful pictures in my Flickr account.

lauren {elycerose} on Flickr just pointed out that aluminum foil boxes have push in tabs for holding the roll in place. This is the most amazing thing I have learned all week and I can’t believe I never noticed it before. My life is now slightly easier.

I saw this photo of a roll of tickets for a “Retarded Children Benefit Show” and I had to post it. Apparently is was taken through the window of an abandoned movie theater. It almost looks like a photoshop, but I forget that “retarded” used to be politically correct back in the day.

I had fun playing this font identification game. I got 27 out of 34, and I only got a couple of those points off of guesses. I’m pretty proud of that score, considering I’ve only been a type nut for a few months.

Although I’m not a huge Bjork fan, I really liked her new music video for “Wanderlust”. It’s a really strange (surprise, surprise) 3-d animation style. It creates a very surreal atmosphere. The video is pretty big, but it’s really good quality.

I couldn’t help making a silly little animated gif of one of the scenes. Must be old habits kicking in.

Exel Energy announced that it would make Boulder, CO the first “Smart Grid City”. Which basically means they are creating some sort of energy program that is self aware and able to make itself more reliant, efficient, and greener. There’s a video on that page that explains it in more detail. This is pretty exciting, hopefully all the bugs will be sorted out by the time I move there.

This is the first known image of Peter, the boy she had a crush on. It was donated by a former boyhood friend of his. A short story about the friends can be read about halfway down this page.

The dairy is still one of the most powerful books I have read and seeing this photo and reading that line just reminded me of how real and sad it was.
