Watercolor infused graphics by Karen Kurycki

These watercolor based graphics by Karen Kurycki made me smile instantly. I love the way she uses loosely dropped watercolor to give it some organic texture, but the careful layouts of the paint keep the designs graphic in nature. Of course the wit helps with the smile factor. There’s a definite DADA influence [...]

50 people, one question

Brilliant mini-documentary, asking 50 people the same question (HD version in the link). You’d be surprised how quickly you can connect to a human being enough that you start to tear up when they answer.
My answer would be: To discover something no one else has

Graphic design by Horatio Lorente of Rockstudios

I’m enamored with this proposed poster design for a film festival done by Horatio Lorente. I like it even better than the version that got printed, but the printed version is pretty good as well. Check out more of his design work in his Flickr set (I personally prefer that to navigating his [...]

Typographic autumn foods canvas bag

I’m so excited for my favorite season of the year, and this reusable canvas bag featuring a typographic design of autumn foods got me even more in the mood. It was designed by Shaz Madani (click on “Taste the Seasons to see more) and the idea was to encourage grocery shoppers to buy foods [...]

Garden shaped as lowercase letter “a”

I thought this was pretty cool, this person’s garden is shaped like the letter “a”. I might have to do that one day. Maybe a “g” for garden, with darker colored, and more densely populated flowers.

re.plant - Plant silhouette photography project

Flickr user s.alt has a beautiful set of plant silhouette photography. I love how the contrast is so high that they almost look like vector art work. These photos would make great inspiration for graphic designs and patterns.

Found art - Fragile manipulate with care

I found the phrase Fragile manipulate with care printed on a box at work and I thought the wording was strange in a good way. Usually they say “handle with care”, but this way is a lot more poetic and up for interpretation. I thought it would make a somewhat provocative piece of [...]

“Hello World” letterpess test run

I just thought this was a very funny and appropriate way to test out your new letterpress machine. Those true nerds out there (which I’m guessing is a good proportion of my visitors) will understand, others can learn the significance here. I love the meshing of old world and new world.

Memory - Incredible illustration by Sarah Watts

Illustrator Sarah Watts posted her latest illustration, entitled Memory, on her blog and it’s probably my favorite so far. That tire swing and spooky looking house are perfect and I love the lines in the hair.

Valerie Jar - Design and illustration portfolio

Recent graduate Valerie Jar has a great portfolio taking shape. I love the colors used in her illustrations and handmade items, and her graphic design is very clean and professional. You can buy those owl pillows and more of her work at her Etsy shop.
